Connection to the World Series of Poker

WSOP.com truly represents the World Series of Poker (WSOP) online. The online poker room offers a full slate of cash games, running 24/7. Plus, it features a full schedule of tournaments, including satellites into WSOP events, as well as its very own online WSOP bracelet events. WSOP.com is owned and operated by the same company that runs the WSOP. As a result, the two are fully integrated.

Games offered

There are three different variants of poker offered at WSOP.com. These include:

  • Texas hold’em
  • Omaha
  • Seven-card stud

All three variants are offered as both cash games and tournaments. However, different limits and structures can vary the games slightly.

Ways to play

The WSOP.com poker client is available to download and play on all Mac and PC computers. Additionally, the WSOP.com mobile poker app allows players the opportunity to join real-money poker games on the go. As long as you’re inside the state of Nevada, you can access all of the same cash games and tournaments on the mobile app as on the traditional desktop client.

The WSOP.com mobile app is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. WSOP.com recommends players use an iPad or Android tablet device for longer sessions because of the extended battery life and bigger view.

The WSOP.com mobile app has all the same features available through the desktop client. Downloading the app is a snap, and it’s ready to go.

WSOP.com Software

WSOP.com employs poker client software designed by 888 Holdings. It is certainly easy to use. However, the software is relatively basic. Frankly, it probably crashes much more than it should, considering you may be playing for a WSOP bracelet.

What works

The game selection menus are easy to navigate, and work just fine. Players willing to narrow down exactly what they are looking for are always going to find it. The simple nature of the graphics give the product a clean look and feel as well. Plus, the basic overall functionality of the site works well, allowing players to sign up, get in the game, and move money on and off with relative ease.

What WSOP.com can improve

WSOP.com needs to do a better job of fixing its glitches, ensuring players don’t crash at the most inopportune times.

The WSOP itself is all about increased game selection. WSOP.com might want to go further in that direction as well, offering poker variants you rarely find outside of the WSOP.

Finally, the online poker room could use a few more bells and whistles in addition to improved graphics if it truly wants to represent the WSOP brand. The WSOP is the biggest name in the game. A more state-of-the-art client would better reflect that level of prestige.

Partners: 888 Delaware

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed an interstate online poker agreement in February 2014. Just a little over a year later, WSOP.com Nevada and 888poker in Delaware began pooling players.

This meant access to a larger pool of players for both relatively small markets.

WSOP.com also operates a New Jersey-based online poker site. This site shares players with 888poker in New Jersey. However, New Jersey has yet to sign any interstate online poker agreements allowing for shared player pools.

Sandoval expressed an interest in signing an interstate compact to share online poker liquidity with New Jersey. However, New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Director David Rebuck has been quoted saying the Delaware and Nevada compact is too bureaucratic, and joining would require New Jersey to revisit the state’s gaming laws.

Plus, Rebuck claims it would be of little value to the majority of New Jersey online poker operators outside of WSOP.com.

How did online poker become legal in Nevada?

In December 2011, the United States Department of Justice released a legal opinion on the Federal Wire Act. The opinion concluded the law did not apply to anything outside of sporting events. The opinion aimed to clarify whether or not state’s could sell lottery tickets on the internet. However, many states took it as a sign that online poker and casino gaming were not in violation of the act.

Nevada lawmakers got on board with the idea. Not long after that, the state legalized and regulated online gambling on February 25th, 2013 when Sandoval signed the bill AB 114 into law. The bill essentially authorized the issuance of online poker operator licenses in Nevada. It also give the governor the power to enter into interstate online poker compacts.

When did WSOP.com Nevada launch?

WSOP.com went live in September 2013, making legal and regulated online poker from one of the biggest brand names in the game available to Nevada residents as well as the nearly 40 million people above the age of 21 who visit the state every year.
